Classification: Full Time - Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour
Reports to: Senior Adoptions Coordinator
Summary/Objective: Richmond Animal League is seeking an enthusiastic Adoption Coordinator to be a key player in our mission to connect cats and dogs with loving families. You will be the friendly face guiding prospective adopters through the process, ensuring they feel welcomed, informed, and excited about giving a cat or a dog a second chance at life.
Our Adoption Coordinators are matchmakers who provide compassionate, knowledgeable guidance to adopters, ensuring they understand the adoption process, the needs of the cat or dog, and the responsibilities of adopting. We seek someone passionate about animal welfare and committed to helping others with a can-do attitude.
Richmond Animal League:
Today, RAL is in growth mode, expanding our reach and impact toward a future where all cats and dogs are in loving homes with access to the support they need to thrive. We work with over 60 area shelters and rescue partners to reduce euthanasia across Virginia. RAL provides temporary housing, medical treatment, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and loving care for pets to help them find new homes.

As an Adoption Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:
Completing adoptions following the guidelines laid out by RAL and following the Adopters Welcome adoption process
Welcoming visitors, donors, potential adopters, and adopters
Answering telephone calls and returning calls promptly
Working with volunteer matchmakers to ensure an efficient adoption workflow.
Preparing adoption folders and completing contracts.
Reviewing adopters’ contracts and meeting with adopters about adoption and the responsibilities and challenges that may arise with adoption.
Educating owners about adoption and proper pet care
Communicating information about the pet's files to the adopter, including medical information
Arranging adoption pick-up dates and times with fosters and adopters.
Performing post-adoption follow-up calls and answering follow-up questions when they are sent in by adopters.
Maintaining adoption records and statistics in Petpoint and ensuring all records are updated within 48 hours of intake.
Assisting in the promotion of pets on the website, with photos of adoptable pets
Maintaining cat and dog signage and information boards in the shelter
Assisting with the creation of a list of potential pets eligible for adoption
What we’re looking for in you:
Key Qualifications
You have strong customer service skills and have at least a year of experience working in a customer service job
You have strong initiative and organizational skills
You are a clear and proficient communicator
You have organizational skills and the ability to work with various members of the public, moving with empathy and helping to educate individuals
You have strong technological skills and the ability to learn new ones
You are at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a fast-paced environment
Experience in animal welfare
Bilingual speakers are encouraged to apply and will be compensated.
Details:
This is a full-time non-exempt position. This role will require evening and weekend work, and some holiday hours. Regular and reliable attendance is essential. The schedule for this position will include one weekend day, and the working hours are 11 a.m.- 8 p.m

Work Environment: The work environment includes shelter and clinic, which can have high noise levels, exposure to cleaning chemicals and animal-related allergens, and a risk of bites and scratches. Physical demands may include lifting, extensive walking, bending, and standing. Work will occur both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs independently.
