PB&J

PB&J was adopted January 27th!!

PB&J is a special kitten who was transferred to RAL from MAD Cats (a smaller foster-based rescue in Madison County) when he was 3 months old due to his extensive medical needs. His laundry list of medical conditions consisted of a significant heart murmur, ringworm, and an enlarged anus which caused him to be fecally incontinent.

Now 4 months old, PB&J’s ringworm is all cleared up and his booty is almost completely healed (he uses the litterbox but just needs to improve his hygiene skills like most teenage boys). However, we have learned that he has a severe congenital heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This condition includes a group of four defects. According to the American Heart Association, those are:

He is one of the best kittens I have had...He never stops purring...he fears nothing...and loves everyone.
— Larissa Jacubec
  • A hole between the lower chambers of the heart

  • An obstruction from the heart to the lungs

  • The aorta (blood vessel) lies over the hole in the lower chambers

  • The muscle surrounding the lower right chamber becomes overly thickened

Because of this condition, PB&J will likely will not reach his first birthday, so we are looking to fill his days with as much love and joy as we possibly can. He is currently in foster care with a member of our shelter medical team who says, “he is one of the best kittens I have had in a while. He never stops purring (which is not fun for the vets trying to listen to his murmur), he fears nothing (except the vacuum), and loves everyone (as long as you pay attention to him).”

His foster mum says that she will love him as long as he is with her, but if someone feels pulled to him then she is willing to share this special boy. He is currently available for adoption while staying in foster care where he is more comfortable and gets lots of love.

We are now working on making a bucket list for this special boy and will share his adventures online with our RAL family. When you have a kitten this special you have to share him with the world.

More to come on this sweet boy’s journey, stay tuned…
