RAL’s 2024 Cat Mascot!

Written by Skunk’s guardian Eliza Miller

Skunk is a sweet and calm who loves people but loves time to herself. She isn't too talkative unless she's trying to ask for something. I've never heard a cat purr as loud as she does when her chin gets scritched.

We adopted her when she was only 8 weeks old back in 2022. I wasn't doing great at that time so my mother suggested we went to RAL to cheer me up by looking at the animals. Once we got there, I locked eyes with this tiny white cat with black spots and a black tail. She was meowing at me and I immediately fell in love. My mom said no and I was devastated but I didn't give up. The next day, I convinced her to go back even in the pouring rain. It was a gross stormy day outside, and I wasn't even sure if she was still available. We get there and sure enough, there she was. She had recently just gotten her spay surgery so she had one of those goofy plastic cones on her head. She was so sweet and we adopted her immediately. Her original name was "Bean" but I felt this cat was too special for such a basic name so I renamed her to "Skunk".

She is now reaching towards her 2nd Birthday! She's became very attached, and doesn't really ever leave my side unless she's really bored. I'm proud to have Skunk as the new years company cat mascot!

Thank you Just Flash Me Studio for photographing Skunk for her RAL Mascot debut!

Read about Jack

“Jack (previously Ferdinand) was adopted in late November 2021 from RAL when he was about 5 months old.  We came in to look at another cat, but the staff at RAL recommended Jack as we have two young daughters and a senior cat and hound dog. He had been fostered with other cats and a dog, and was described as ‘confident’ and ‘calm for his age.’

We changed his name to Jack. He loves to chase his toy mice and will play fetch. His best bud is another youngster named Colby that we later adopted to be his playmate. He loves to play and nap. He gets along beautifully with the other animals and our kids. While he’s rather shy around strangers, he knows our family and trusts us.  He’s been a wonderful addition to our family and I can’t wait to see his little face as the face of RAL as the cat mascot!” - Signed his Cat Mom
