Misconceptions about Pit Bulls

There exist many misnomers about pit bulls in general. They do not latch on to a person/animal/food/or toy with any more force than other dogs of comparable size.

They are quite people focused and very willing to please their owners and handlers. This may be to their detriment as their loyalty and willingness to please make them easy targets for dog fighting. In the course of a dog fight, when two dogs are pitted against each other, there are humans in the pit to handle the dogs. As a result, pit bull aggression toward humans is not tolerated in the gruesome world of dog fighting. People aggressive fighting dogs are routinely killed by the humans who force them to fight.

For decades, pit bulls were referred to as “nanny dogs” for their undying commitment and tenderness to human children in their families. These dogs are loyal to a fault.

Pit Bulls can be quite active and should be provided age appropriate stimulation in the form of frequent exercise, walks, and toys.

Pit bulls are quite happy when given a “job” such as visiting schools, hospitals and nursing homes after they’ve passed all the required behavior and training tests.
