A list of the various jobs done by RAL volunteers

Adoptions Counselor

Duties: Welcome visitors to RAL, show our animals to potential adopters, help potential adopters complete adoption application, make adoption related phone calls, answer phones as needed.
Available Shifts: Tuesday-Friday 4:30 PM to 6 PM or 6 PM to 8 PM, Saturday-Sunday 12 to 4
Requirements: Weekly or bi-weekly commitment

Dog Crew

Duties: Exercise dogs by walking and playing in the backyard, feed dogs, clean front and back of runs, replace bedding and refill water buckets, scoop the yard, refill food containers, take out trash, assist with dishes and laundry, give occasional baths and socialize with dogs.
Available Shifts: 8:30 AM to Noon or 6 PM to 8 PM, any day of the week
Requirements: Weekly or bi-weekly commitment

Cat Crew

Duties: Pick up previous day’s food and water bowls, clean litter boxes, clean inside cages, replace bedding, give fresh food and water, clean floors, take out trash, assist with dishes and laundry as needed.
Available Shifts: 8:30 AM to Noon or 6 PM to 8 PM, any day of the week.
Requirements: Weekly or bi-weekly commitment

Petsmart Adoption Events

Duties: PetSmart volunteers assist in showcasing our animals and promoting the Richmond Animal League. Duties include assisting with loading supplies (crates, water bowls, etc.), putting cats in crates for transport and loading dogs into the van. Once at Petsmart, we showcase our animals and talk with prospective adopters. In addition to giving the animals an outing, this is also a good opportunity to socialize them. A lot of our animals are adopted as a result of their being seen there.
Available Shift: Sundays, 11:30 AM to 3 PM
Requirements: Minimum of once a month commitment

Off-Site Adoptions

Duties: Assist in showcasing RAL animals at various off-site adoption locations, load supplies and animals in van, talk with prospective adopters, socialize animals.
Shifts: As needed (mostly weekends)
Requirements: Minimum of once a month commitment

Cat/Dog Socialization

Duties: Dog walking, cat/dog socialization and grooming at the shelter OR take an RAL dog on a day outing (to the park, your house, etc.)
Available Shifts: Monday through Friday afternoons
Requirements: Minimum of once a month commitment
