How Kids Can Help

Do you want to help but are not yet old enough to volunteer? Not to worry. There are many things you can do to help the animals. At Richmond Animal League, kids are some of our biggest supporters. Donations and funds raised by students and community groups enable Richmond Animal League to provide hope, help and homes for over 1,700 homeless pets each year.

Below are some ways kids can help out.

  • Hold a bake sale or open a lemonade stand in your community and donate the proceeds to RAL.
  • Organize a wish list drive at school, church, in your neighborhood or with your scout troop. Ask others to donate items from the RAL wish list to help the homeless pets.
  • Having a birthday party? Ask guests to bring an item or money for a homeless pet.
  • Organize a fun challenge for your classroom, scout troop or whole school. Hold a Penny Wars competition where kids bring pennies for their team or silver coins to subtract from another team. Donate all the coins to help the pets at RAL.
  • Foster with your family. Ask your parents if your family would like to become a foster family for RAL.
  • Make a poster or video to promote a pet currently waiting for adoption at RAL and share in your community.
  • Make toys for pets while they are in RAL's care.
  • Cleaning out your room? Donate books, puzzles, and other items to RAL's thrift store, Reuse.
  • Spread the word. Encourage more people to adopt from RAL or have their pet spay/neutered at the Loving Spay+Neuter Clinic

Just a few of the many kind kids helping the homeless pets at RAL

Emily Newsom gave up her Christmas gifts to have all the money go to the Richmond Animal League. Then something incredible happened.  Watch here. Alyssa and Addison asked all the guests to their 8th birthday party to bring donations for RAL in lieu of gifts. They collected the donations in a box with pictures of RAL animals. Taegan, Macey, Molly and Olivia set up a lemonade stand in their neighborhood. All the money was donated to RAL.  Girl Scout Troop 705 held a donation drive for items from RAL's wish list for their Bronze Award project.
